The head of the Ukrainian state pointed out that his country appreciates the new sanctions that Europe introduced towards Russia during Poland's presidency in the EU Council. He also thanked the Polish government and Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
“Thank you (…) for achievements during these six months, (obtained) together with our partners – increasing the defense support of Ukraine, new investments in the production of weapons in Ukraine and, in general, throughout Europe, as well as positive steps for (…) European integration (Ukraine). All this will work for the strength of Europe. Thank you!” – summed up the president.
Poland was the presidency in the Council of the European Union from January 1 to June 30, 2025. During this period, an agreement was reached in the EU Council regarding the 16th and 17th Sanction Package. Work on the eighteenth package was also brought almost to the end.
On Tuesday, the presidency of the EU Council covered Denmark, which intends to continue Polish treatments for progress in negotiations on the accession of Ukraine to the EU. Poland failed to break the Hungarian veto in this matter – Budapest blocked the opening of the first so -called negotiating cluster.
