Last month, Trump threatened to apply 50 % customs duties on most of the EU goods if the parties fail to generate an agreement before July 9. According to “WSJ”, many fossil fuel producers quietly oppose the planned application of duties to countries that buy their products.

Last year, they allocated millions of dollars to his presidential campaign. In return, the administration tries to increase the demand for their products and has repealed American regulations regarding environmental protection.
American companies oppose, among others adopted last year in the EU Directive on the due diligence of enterprises in the field of sustainable development. Its purpose is to protect the environment and human rights against the negative effects of companies; These provisions also regulate the issues of company liability for any damage, e.g. environmental.
One of the main opponents of these provisions is the head of the Exxon Mobil Darren Woods group, which in connection with tax increases and other regulations reduced investments in Europe in recent years by about 70 percent. – wrote “WSJ”. American oil companies also ask Trump to intervene on methane regulations that would require liquefied natural gas and other fuels to the start of measuring and reporting the intensity of methane emissions in 2028 from companies.
