Experienced gardeners have called three key rules for strawberry care, following which can increase culture yield by 75% or more. According to them, with the right approach from one bush, you can collect at least three buckets of juicy and sweet berries.
The first important rule is the proper feeding. Experienced gardeners advise in early autumn to avoid nitrogen and organic fertilizers. In their opinion, such top dressing stimulate excessive growth of green mass, which is why the berries are watery, and the leaves become too tender. This increases the risk that the plant will not survive the wintering.
The second rule is the cleaning of mulch. In summer, strawberries are covered with straw for insulation, and by the fall it is recommended to remove this “insulation”. Experts note that straw mulch in winter prevents the soil from warming up, as it absorbs water and becomes heavy, which can lead to decay.
The third important rule is the pruning of the plant. Experienced gardeners advise not to touch the leaves in the beginning of autumn, as this can push the laying of fruit buds. Instead, it is recommended to remove only yellow, damaged or dry leaves to prepare strawberries for winter and provide a good harvest in the next season.
Following these simple recommendations, summer residents will be able to significantly increase the yield of their strawberries and enjoy the rich collection of sweet berries.
