The two -phase attack killed 15 people and injured over 200 in the DNIPRO regional capital, said governor Serhiy Lysak. The injured includes at least 18 children, he added, according to Reuters.
The attack during the day, a rare thing, also damaged dozens of blocks of apartments and educational institutions, among other locations, according to Mayor Blys Filatov, who said that the attack caused a “Unprecedented level of destruction” in the city.
Two people were also killed in the city of Samar, about 10 km from Dnipro, Lysak said, adding that an infrastructure facility was damaged.
The attack took place while Zelenski asked NATO member states to increase their investments in the Ukraine's expanding defense sector and prohibit the provision of foreign components that Russia uses to build their weapons.
“This is not a conflict in which it is difficult to choose a part,” he wrote on X, in response to attack. “Standing with Ukraine means defending life.”
Zelenski was also expected to meet US President Donald Trump in the summit margin.
Russia has intensified the air blows on Ukraine in recent weeks, especially on the Kiev Capital, where 28 people were killed on June 17, in the most deadly attack this year.
Another 10 people died in air attacks on Kiev and the surrounding area on Monday.
After Tuesday's attack on the city of Dnipro, the shocked inhabitants inspected a block of severely damaged apartments and destroyed cars. At a nearby church, the windows were broken and the pieces scattered on the altar.
Priest Serhii Narolskyi said he was holding a job at the time of the attack, which was preceded by an air alert.
“It happened in a flash. You opened your eyes and there were no windows or doors anymore,” he said. “Everything was in a half destroyed state.”
