Blaise Metrewela will be the first woman as the head of the British intelligence of the Mi6 – said the BBC portal. According to the prime minister of Great Britain, Keira Starmer, the nomination is a historical moment, because “the work of intelligence services has never been as important as now.”

The 47-year-old Metrewela is an anthropopoly by profession, she graduated from her studies at the University of Cambridge. Earlier, she held director's positions in the Mi5 counterintelligence. She spent most of her career working in the Middle East and Europe. Currently, she is the general director of the Mi6 Technology and Innovation Department, whose goal is to maintain the identity of secret agents in secret and develop new ways of surviving surveillance, including Chinese biometric identification.
“MI6 plays a key role – together with Mi5 and GCHQ (Government Communications Headquarters – PAP Communications Center – PAP) – in ensuring security to the British and promoting the interests of Great Britain abroad,” Metrewela said, cited by the BBC. “I am looking forward to working alongside brave officers and MI6 agents and our numerous international partners,” she added.
The British Foreign Minister David Lamma, before which Metreweels will answer, said that she is a “perfect” candidate for this position. In his opinion, he will guarantee that Great Britain will be able to face the challenges associated with “global instability and emerging security threats.”
Richard Moore, who was passing after five years of work as the head of Mi6, described his successor as “a highly qualified intelligence officer, as well as one of the leading experts in the field of technology.” In 2023, Moor revealed that he was chosen from the list of candidates made exclusively of men, writing on X: “I will help in building equality of women, trying to ensure that I would be the last candidate + C + selected from the list of candidates consisting only of men.”
Metrewela, like its predecessors, is the only publicly mentioned member of the special services. As the boss of MI6, she will be described as “C” according to tradition. This refers to the history of Mansfield Smith-Cumming, who was the first head of the British Intelligence Agency Secret Service Bureau, founded in 1909. He always signed documents with the letter “C” using green ink. The boss Mi6 remains is the only person who writes this color of ink.
The Mi6 mission is to collect intelligence information abroad to improve the safety of Great Britain. The agency's main goals are: stopping terrorism, disturbing the activities of hostile countries and strengthening cybersecurity.
According to the BBC, MI6 is currently in the face of unprecedented numerous challenges related to the activities of Russia, China, Iran and North Korea. (PAP)
