In the last match of group F from the U21 World Championship of men's handball, Romania was defeated by the Faroe Islands, score 28-35, and thus missed the opportunity to rank on the first position.
In the first two days of the U21 World Championship, the tricolors obtained some exciting results, which ensured their presence in the main phase of the tournament. First, Romania produced the surprise and imposed with 29-25 in front of Iceland and then in the duel with North Macedonia, managed a spectacular return and won 28-27.

In the direct confrontation for the first place in Group F, Adrian Petrea's students were outclassed by the Faroe Islands. At the break, the Nordics were leading 18-15 and, this time, Daniel Stanciuc and the company failed to return.
In the second half, the Faroe Islands continued to dominate and won by 35-28, on the background of 23 goals scored by Oli Mittun (9), Niklas Gaard (8) and Isak Vedelsbol (6).
On the other side, the leaders of Romania were Stanciuc (7 goals), Andrei Oancea (6) and Alexandru Focșăneanu (5).
In the main phase, the national U21 will also remain in Katowice, Poland, being distributed in Group III. The tricolors will have an almost impossible mission because they will play against France and Denmark, which are the first two of the group E.
After defeating the Faroe Islands, Romania has 0 points in the main phase and a goal of -7. On Monday, June 23, Petrea's students will take place with the first ranking of Group E, and on Tuesday, June 24, will meet the second place.
This evening (21.06), at 7:30 pm, France will face Denmark for the head of the group. In the other match of Group F, the one of which Romania was part in the first phase, Iceland clearly defeated Northern Macedonia: 34-28.
