President Nicușor Dan on Wednesday appealed to state institutions to treat “with maximum seriousness cases of domestic violence. “Too many alarm signals have been ignored,” the head of state wrote in a Facebook post, while over 1,000 people protest on Wednesday night in Victoriei Square, following the crime in Lipănești commune, Prahova, where a 22-year-old was killed by the former partner, in front of the street.

“I make a firm appeal to the authorities with responsibilities in the application of the law – police, prosecutors, judges – to treat each case of domestic violence with maximum seriousness. Too many alarm signals have been ignored. It is imperative that the victims are believed and protected, and the abusive behaviors should be stopped before transforming them into Tragedies.”

He “firmly” condemned any form of violence against women and warned that such facts cannot be tolerated, ignored or treated with superficiality.

“Romania is facing a worrying level of violence against women. Only in the first six months of this year, 26 women lost their lives, most of the aggressions committed by former or current partners. Last year, over 130,000 cases of domestic violence were reported,” wrote the head of state.

“I will collaborate with the future government to build a package of concrete measures, which will ensure the real protection of victims and prevent gender violence,” he added.

A 22 -year -old woman from Lipănești commune was killed by the former partner in the street in front of her mother and children. This happened after the victim left his partner and moved to his parental home.

In the morning of the crime, the man was visited by the police, but was released. The aggressor abuses the young woman physically, mentally and sexually since adolescence.

The manifestation in Victoriei Square is organized almost two weeks after another similar protest, which was a crime reaction in Cosmopolis.
