The Ukrainian authorities announced on Friday the construction of a new bridge over the Danube, which will connect the village of Orlivka, in the Odessa region, to the city of Isaccea, in Tulcea county, writes News.ro, which cites Ukrainskaia Pravda.
The construction of the Orlivka-Isaccea bridge, which will cross the Danube, is part of the great southern transport corridor and will connect Ukraine with the European Union through Romania.
The project was included in the strategy of reconstruction and development of the region for the period 2025-2027, published on the website of the Odessa Regional Council. This bridge will be part of the international route E87, which connects Ukraine to Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey.
Currently, drivers who want to reach Tulcea to Odessa and vice versa, have to make a detour through Moldova, crossing the border twice. The new bridge will reduce the distance to Isaccea by about 80 kilometers, the Ukrainian press states.
The construction of the bridge will be financed from international aid, worth about 27 million euros over a period of three years.
In 2023, Russian drones attacked the port infrastructure in the Ukrainian region, avoiding a cereal silo in Izmail district. The images recorded then from the Romanian shore showed the projectiles of what two Ukrainian anti-aircraft systems seem to be heard the characteristic noise of a Drone-Kamikaze Shahed. The explosions were clearly seen on the Romanian shore. Then the tafic through the Isaccea border crossing point was totally closed on the Ukrainian side.
And in 2024 the border crossing point from Ukraine to Romania, Orlovka-Isaccea, was hit by the drones, and two truck drivers were injured.
