The German prosecutors on Wednesday defended three spy suspects in favor of Russian intelligence services, DPA, taken over by AGERPRES.
It seems that the three-a Russian citizen, one Ukrainian and an Armenian-spied on a former officer who had worked for the Ukraine's Army Intelligence Service. Their intention was to assassinate. According to the prosecution, the Armenian received from a Russian information service the order to follow the possible victim.
The former agent was accused in the Russian press of committing war crimes by participating in the killing of Russian soldiers taken prisoners.
He alerted the German police after being invited to a meeting in a cafe in Frankfurt. The suspects were detained and are under arrest.
The accusations were registered by the Federal Prosecutor's Office at the High Regional Court in Frankfurt, and the court will decide whether it will trigger a trial. Prosecutors suspect that the espionage operation had the role of preparing other information collection actions in Germany.
In recent months, the German authorities have detained other suspects for Russian espionage. Last week began in Munich the trial of three men with double citizenship, Russian and German, accused of preparing sabotages of military infrastructures and railway lines.
