EU Commissioner for Defense: Russia can test the West as early as 2027

The EU Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius expressed the opinion that Russia could “test” the West as early as 2027. As he said in the Italian parliament on Monday, the United States is beginning to understand that Vladimir Putin does not want to suspend weapons and peace in Ukraine.

In the speech before the combined foreign committees and the defense of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, the EU Commissioner said: “Russia can test our reaction ability and our response in accordance with Article 5. NATO and could do so in 2027.”

Andrius Kubilius said: “We must be ready for such a development of events.”

“We must also remember that we must be ready in the face of China's military development,” and that “the United States is increasingly transferring funds in the Indo -Pacific region and less to Europe” – said the EU Commissioner.

“For me personally it is very clear that Putin does not want to suspend weapons or peace. Maybe the US administration begins to understand this. Perhaps Putin thinks that he is winning this war,” said Kubilius.

In his opinion, the American administration must “begin to understand that strengthening Ukraine forces will help more effectively achieve peace.” (PAP)
