The Parliament approved on Thursday, May 22, 2025, the agreement on the support of 1.9 billion euros granted to the Republic of Moldova by the European Union.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean, who presented in the plenary of Parliament, said that the money will be invested in several projects, including the construction of the Chisinau-Ungheni highway, the modernization of the railway, the construction of two modern regional hospitals and the construction of two high voltage electric lines for interconnection in the European network.

“The plan of growth of Moldova is about living in well -being here, at home. About not waiting for years for life to improve. About equipped hospitals, modern schools, safe roads and decent salaries. 20 or 50 years ”, said Dorin Recean, Prime Minister of Moldova, according to ZdG.

According to the cited publication, the Moldovan raising plan provides for a 520 million euro grant, intended for investments, technical assistance and for guarantee loans, and 1.5 billion euros, which will be paid according to the progress made by the Republic of Moldova in the process of implementing the reforms.

The Republic of Moldova officially filed the request for accession to the European Union in March 2022. In the same year, in June, it received the status of candidate country, and in December 2023, the European Council decided to open the accession negotiations.

The European Commissioner for Extension, Marta Kos, recently on an official visit to Chisinau (May 9-11), said that Moldova could become a member of the EU in less than 4 years.

However, the residence of Maia Sandu claims that “The real deadline is the completion of the negotiations until the end of 2027. After that, in 2028, a period will begin when all countries must express their support and ratification of our agreement ”.
