According to the documents of 19 May, four days earlier, the head of Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), an agency subordinate to the Pentagon, informed the chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee about the planned order. The new purchase, including the previous contract for four Patriot system batteries from 2017, increases the total maximum value of Polish investments in this system to $ 16.3 billion. According to applicable procedures, the US Congress has 30 days to analyze proposals and a possible objection. After this period, the Department of State must agree.
Poland is arming in the USA
Earlier, Poland also ordered 208 PAC-3 missiles, which are characterized by a range of up to 35 kilometers and are adapted mainly to combat short and medium-range ballistic missiles. The newly ordered PAC-2 GEM-T have wider use-they are used to capture not only short-range ballistic missiles, but also maneuvering rockets and aircraft.
According to the information provided last year by the Defense News Raytheon portal – the Patriot rocket manufacturer – is able to produce about 20 such missiles per month, and in 2024 the company still had to complete an order for 1,500 pieces. The administration of President Joe Bidena priority treats the deliveries of Patriot systems for Ukraine. In recent days, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rust of Dies, met with Raytheon's management to discuss the possibility of buying more batteries and rockets.
