The Russian Investigation Committee has opened a criminal procedure against a protruding journalist who runs a publication from neighboring Latvia, known for the critical coverage of the conflict in Ukraine and several disclosures inside the Kremlin, CNN reports.
The Moscow branch of the Committee, which deals with the major criminal cases in Russia, said on Tuesday that he opened the case against Galina Timcenko, born in Russia, co -founding and director of the publication.
The jellyfish, which reports in detail about the large -scale invasion of Moscow in the neighboring country, announced online that Timcenko risks six years in prison if he is sentenced.
The jellyfish has published since the beginning of the Ukraine war several disclosures based on its Kremlin sources or close to Vladimir Putin's presidential administration.
The most famous of these was the information published on June 9, 2022, according to which Putin decided to annex all the Ukrainian regions in which his armed forces recorded significant advances: Lugansk, Donetsk, Herson and Zaporojie.
No one expected a little to claim Ukrainian regions Herson and Zaporojie
The information revealed by the jellyfish was considered surprising at that time, given that Putin motivated the invasion of Ukraine by defending the Russian minority from only two of the four regions, Lugansk and Donetk-where the pro-Russian separatists triggered an armed struggle against Kiev immediately after Moscow an annexed in an organized reference in 2014.
Putin would proclaim the annexation in Russia of the 4 Ukrainian regions on September 3, 2022, more than 3 months after the jellyfish revealed his intentions.
His announcement came just 2 days after the completion of referendums of “union” with Russia, organized in the 4 Ukrainian regions. As with the one for the annexation of Crimea, they are not recognized by the international community, the vote being considered deeply vitiated and fraudulent.
Russia still claims that Ukraine will fully teach these 4 regions, although Moscow's armed forces do not fully control their territories. This claim of the Kremlin was proven during the recently held negotiations in Istanbul one of the great impediments to the conclusion of an armistice to be the basis of a peace treaty.

What accusations Russia brings to Galina Timcenko
The Moscow Investigation Committee said that the criminal case on Timcenko's name is based on the accusation of organizing the activities of an “undesirable organization” and publishing videos “meant to incite feelings of protest and to involve the public in the activities” of such an organization.
The institutions considered “undesirable” on the grounds that they would threaten the constitutional order of Russia may be subject to fines or receive a dissolution order.
Timcenko, who previously led important publications in Russia, was designated last year as a “foreign agent” – a label with negative connotations from the Soviet era, which imposes strict bureaucratic requirements.
Hundreds of Russian citizens received this designation.
Since sending tens of thousands of soldiers to Ukraine, in February 2022, the Russian Parliament approved a legislation that has tightened the measures against dissent in the country, including by fines and prison penalties to discredit the army or to spread false information about it.
The Moscow authorities have restricted the access of Russians to the publication from Meduza since March 4, 2022, shortly after the invasion of Ukraine.
