The folk holiday received the name in memory of the martyrs – the deacon Agafopode, the reader Feudula and others like them, who gave their lives for faith in 303.
On this day, warm spring winds begin to blow. They say about inclement weather: “Fedul came – pouted his lips.” Sometimes they also use a more interesting version of the saying: “Fedul, why did you pout your lips?” The caftan burned. “Is the hole great?” “One gate remained.”
It was believed that crickets arrive with the first spring wind and settled in gardens. Capresses, ladybug butterfly.
On Fedula (Theodula), it was necessary to dissolve the windows and speak with special words to protect the hut from rotten winds, from evil spirits, from the commotion. However, the true reason for such a custom was most likely the most mundane: after a long winter, I hired to ventilate, and the warm wind could no longer protrude the room. It was no coincidence that they said: “Who used to dissolve the window before Fedula – he got into the bad weather”; “The window opened the window on Fedula – the hut without firewood was trampled.”
The farmers observed: if at the bottom of the ravine there is snow the size of a cow, it means that you can take it for arable land.
