Prices of beer “bizarrely high”. Heineken, the defendant, responds to the allegations


Heineken suits the Jumbo network. The court decision in this case will be made on May 22. As reported by the Dutch daily “FD”, quoted by the website forhandlu.pl, Heineken accuses Jumbo of reducing orders for his products by as much as 78 percent. from the end of March. In turn, Jumbo indicates that beer prices in the Netherlands are “strangely high”.
The conflict has its roots in negotiations with the Aura shopping organization, to which Jumbo belongs. The brewery claims that the price dispute has significantly affected its sales results in Europe.
In turn, Jumbo, the second largest retail network in the Netherlands, strongly denies the allegations. The company indicates that beer prices in the Netherlands are “strangely high” compared to France and Germany. Despite the attempts to achieve the compromise of the conversation, they ended in failure.
Heineken's poor results in Europe
The conflict with Jumbo coincided with a difficult period for Heineken. In the first quarter of 2025, the company recorded a decrease in sales by 0.3 percent, reaching revenues of EUR 7.8 billion. The decrease in sales volume in Europe was particularly visible, which amounted to 4.7 percent. A similar trend occurred in the Americas, where sales have shrunk by 3.7 percent. The only regions in which Heineken noted increases were Africa, the Middle East and the region of Asia and the Pacific.
Beer is falling in Poland
Poles turn away from beer? Last year, the beer industry sold 100 million bottles and cans of beer less than in 2023, which is a 1.7 percent decrease. – Polish breweries informed. Only the segment of non -alcoholic beer recorded an increase – by over 17 percent.
Last year's sales of beers are the lowest result in 20 years. The president of Polish breweries Igor Tikhonov noticed that last year's decline in the entire market was another such year for the industry, which over the past five years has shrunk by about 10 percent.
