Rockfall in Cappadocia Tourist Spot Claims Lives

According to reports, a rockfall occurred at the geological formation known as “fairy chimneys” in Cappadocia, Turkey, triggered by heavy rainfall. Debris fell on visitors, prompting a swift response from police, gendarmerie, rescuers, and medical personnel. Injured individuals were transported to hospitals.
The Governor of Nevsehir Province, Hüseyin Keyik, reported that rescuers recovered the bodies of two deceased individuals.
Turkey’s Minister of Justice, Akın Gürlek, announced the initiation of an investigation, involving the Deputy Chief Prosecutor and two prosecutors.
“Search and rescue teams are continuing coordinated and intensive efforts to locate any other victims who may be trapped under the rubble,” the minister stated.
Due to adverse weather conditions, including rain and wind, hot air balloon flights, a popular tourist activity in Cappadocia, were canceled on October 29. Further cancellations are expected for October 30 based on weather forecasts.
