Arsenal Faces Shocking Exit from League Cup Against Fleetwood Town

Arsenal Football Club has experienced a historic defeat, getting eliminated from the League Cup after a penalty shootout against fourth-tier team Fleetwood Town. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Fleetwood winning 5-3 on penalties.
Fleetwood stunned the English champions by taking the lead in the 21st minute through Loupalo-Bi. Despite fielding notable players like Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyökeres, Arsenal struggled to overcome the underdog, who had a 10-to-1 odds against qualification.
Arsenal’s Dominance Not Enough to Secure Victory
Swedish striker Gyökeres equalized for Arsenal in the 50th minute, prompting a relentless offensive push from Mikel Arteta’s side. Arsenal dominated possession, holding 78% and firing 26 shots on goal, yet they could not secure another goal. Subsequent penalties saw Arsenal’s Bruno Guimarães miss, while Fleetwood’s Haughey converted the final penalty, sealing their unexpected victory.
Drone Disruption Delays Match Start
The match at Highbury Stadium was temporarily halted just two minutes after kickoff due to a drone flying over the field. Referee Michael Salisbury paused play after observing the drone, leading players to pass the ball around while waiting for it to leave. After about five minutes, local police located the drone operator, allowing the game to resume following an eight-minute delay, as per the strict protocols in place for such incidents.
Official procedures dictate that play must be stopped if a drone is detected, with referees required to inform team captains and coaches that the game will not resume until the drone has vacated the area above the pitch and stands.
