The National Audiovisual Council sent a statement on Monday evening on Monday evening, which “draws attention to the fact that the intimidation of the press representatives, their labeling as” mediative assassins “or the use of a contemptible language to the journalistic activity contravenes the democratic values ​​and the European standards on the freedom of the press and the protection of the journalists”.

The CNA expressed “deep concern about the recent skids in the public discourse, manifested by direct threats and attacks against journalists and the profession of journalist, including by publishing the manipulated registration of a public broadcast”.

“The CNA draws attention to the fact that the intimidation of the press representatives, their labeling as” mediative assassins “or the use of a contemptible language against journalistic activity contravenes the democratic values ​​and European standards on the freedom of the press and the protection of journalists. Freedom of expression does not include the right to threaten, defame or manipulate the public opinion,” the institution.

The CNA says that “during the election campaigns it is even more necessary a responsible public conduct, in the spirit of decency and respect for the fundamental institutions of democracy-among which the media occupies an essential place.”

“The CNA firmly condemns any form of pressure exerted on the press and asks all the public actors – regardless of their status – to contribute to the strengthening of a climate of dialogue, honesty and respect in relation to journalism and its role in the democratic life. The Council reiterates its commitment to watch, by all legal means, to the respect of the profession, to the profession, to Romania,” he shows in the statement.
