Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of President Donald Trump, is set to visit Russia on Wednesday, as reported by Russian news agency Tass, citing an anonymous source.
This trip follows a meeting Witkoff had in Oslo on Tuesday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere confirmed that Witkoff will head to Saint Petersburg, where he is expected to present proposals developed by American and European officials. These proposals may pave the way for a potential summit of leaders, according to reports from AFP and Agerpres.
Witkoff’s journey comes amid heightened tensions between Trump and Zelensky, who have exchanged accusations in recent days regarding the stagnation of finding a resolution.
An American official cited by Axios stated that Witkoff’s agenda includes a meeting with President Vladimir Putin to discuss ideas that were previously addressed with European allies.
