During a press conference ahead of the highly anticipated match against Liverpool, Enzo Maresca, the manager of Manchester City, addressed the ongoing allegations against the club. This marks his first public statement since the independent commission accused Manchester City of breaching 114 financial rules in the Premier League from 2009 to 2018.
The match, scheduled for Sunday at 18:30 on Anfield, is a crucial game in the sixth round of the Premier League.
Maresca expressed unwavering trust in the club’s leadership and affirmed his commitment to Manchester City. “I am fully confident in the people here and there is no other club where I would rather be,” he stated. He assured that the players are entirely focused on the challenging match against Liverpool.
Manager’s Remarks on Potential Relegation
Addressing concerns about possible relegation, Maresca reflected on his past experience, saying, “If we get relegated? I already won the Championship with Leicester. If we go to League 1, we will see. We are speculating about something uncertain.” He emphasized the ongoing appeal process, stating, “I prefer to discuss the situation only when the club wins the appeal. I currently do not have much information, but I understand why many of you are here seeking a reaction.”
Maresca provided an update on star striker Erling Haaland, confirming he is fit for the upcoming derby. “He is doing well! He went to Marbella, had a couple of days off, and played golf. He has recovered and is ready for Anfield,” Maresca said.
Looking forward to the match against Liverpool, a rival in the title race for the past few years, Maresca expressed optimism about his team’s ability to handle the pressure at the legendary Anfield stadium. “I know Anfield is a fantastic stadium, and the atmosphere will be even more intense. This is why I chose to coach this team. It will be a complicated duel and a difficult test. We need to be prepared, and the focus must be on the team. The situation could complicate things further,” he warned.
He added, “They are fully capable of managing pressure. We have players who have experienced similar moments, like Enzo Fernandez in Argentina, where every match is like that.”
