Authorities have reported a significant drone attack on the Moscow area, resulting in a fire at the Volodarskaya Linear Production Dispatch Station (LPDS), which serves as a major fuel depot for the region. This incident has led to operational restrictions at several airports, including Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, and Zhukovsky.
According to the Ukrainian monitoring channel Supernova+, the Moscow region was targeted from multiple directions, and explosions were audible throughout the area. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that a large portion of the drones was allegedly intercepted by Russian air defense systems, with 105 drones reportedly destroyed before reaching the city.
There have been conflicting reports regarding injuries and damage. Sobyanin did not provide details on casualties or property damage, while the Governor of the Moscow region, Andrei Vorobyov, claimed there were six injured and one fatality, alongside damage to ten private residences.
Supernova+ later reported that the fire at the LPDS Volodarskaya, a key facility for storing and transporting petroleum products in the Moscow region, had ignited. This facility is located near the settlements of Volodarskoye and Konstantinovo. The news outlet Astra has confirmed the fire at the site.
Context
- The Volodarskaya LPDS is part of Transnefteproduct JSC and has the capacity to separately store and transport automotive gasoline, aviation fuel, and diesel through pipelines. The facility handles an annual turnover of 3 million tons of petroleum products, receiving supplies from Moscow and Ryazan oil refineries. A complex network of pipelines directly connects the station to key Moscow airports, including Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Sheremetyevo.
