The Romanian national football team has suffered a blow ahead of their upcoming match against Sweden, as striker Daniel Bîrligea has sustained an injury and left the training camp.
The match between Romania and Sweden is set to take place on Monday at 21:45, as part of the UEFA Nations League.
Gheorghe Hagi, the national team’s coach, will be without both Bîrligea and Louis Munteanu, who had also suffered an injury prior to the match against Poland, where Romania lost 0-6.
Bîrligea sustained a muscular injury during the match in Warsaw and will not be fit for the fixture against Sweden. He is expected to return to his club Frosinone to begin his rehabilitation.
Daniel Bîrligea’s Departure from the National Camp
According to medical examinations conducted after the Warsaw match, Bîrligea reported muscular issues and has been ruled out for the October 5 match against Sweden.
The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) wished him a speedy recovery in a message on their social media channels, stating, “We wish Daniel good health and look forward to his return stronger!”
Bîrligea had started in Romania’s last two matches, scoring once against Bosnia in a 4-2 defeat and playing in the 0-6 loss to Poland.
With both Bîrligea and Munteanu unavailable, Hagi will need to find alternatives for the Sweden match. The initial call-up also included Denis Drăguș, who faced injury just before the national team matches.
Potential replacements for the striker position against Sweden include Dennis Man, Valentin Mihăilă, or Florin Tănase, who may be used as forwards if needed.
Other Players Departing the National Camp
Earlier, the FRF announced that Radu Drăgușin and Virgil Ghiță also left the national training camp. Both central defenders are suspended for the upcoming match against Sweden.
