According to reports, a drone attack occurred at the airport at 9:12 AM, coinciding with the planned arrival of U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Donald Trump, in Kyiv the following day after their talks in Moscow.
Following the attack, Witkoff and Kushner managed to reach Kyiv by train from Poland.
However, an American official denied that the change in travel plans was directly linked to the strike on the airport, stating that the delegation’s schedule frequently changed at the last minute.

- On September 5, Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Moscow, where they met with the illegitimate president of the aggressor state, Vladimir Putin. According to assistant Yuri Ushakov, the Americans presented a range of considerations regarding potential pathways to resolve the war. Reuters noted that the meeting did not yield any breakthroughs. The next day, Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Kyiv for their first visit to Ukraine.
- The Ukrainian side was prepared to welcome Trump’s envoys at the airport, but due to Russian shelling, Witkoff and Kushner were forced to travel to Kyiv by train on September 6. That same day, they departed the capital on the Peace Express special train, where Ukrainian Railways treated the delegation to dishes from Crimean Tatar cuisine.
