Sylvester Stallone, known for his role in the “Rocky” film franchise, recently revealed that he did not officially accept the title of “special ambassador” for Hollywood, a position assigned to him by President Donald Trump. This admission surfaced nearly two years after the appointment, as reported by Variety.
In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Stallone explained, “Well, it just happened.” He recalled the moment he learned of the appointment, saying, “I was watching TV one night and heard: ‘So, Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson, and Jon Voight will be…’. I immediately reacted, ‘What? How so? Seriously?’ If I had been asked from the start, I would have said such a thing was impossible,” he said.
The Hollywood star candidly discussed his reservations about the role, noting, “Yes, because Hollywood operates, I believe, like feudal states. Everyone has their little kingdom. You can’t go in and tell the six major studios how to do their jobs. Mel Gibson, Jon Voight, and I are the types of people who mind our own business.”
Stallone also recalled telling Donald Trump that the appointment “would not work.” He explained, “I said ‘thank you and goodbye’ because it’s impossible. Hollywood works and will evolve. It’s a corporate world, and the people in corporations wouldn’t want to hear me talk to them about finances.”

Stallone, Gibson, and Voight were first announced as “special ambassadors” by Trump in January 2025. The President shared the news on his social media platform, Truth Social, stating, “I have the honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone as special ambassadors for a great place, but one in great difficulty: Hollywood, California. They will act as my special envoys to make Hollywood, which has lost a lot of business over the last four years to foreign countries, bigger, better, and stronger than ever! These three extremely talented individuals will be my eyes and ears, and I will implement what they suggest. It will be, once again – just like the United States of America itself – the Golden Age of Hollywood!”
Stallone Expresses Admiration for Trump
Despite his initial hesitation regarding the appointment, Stallone continues to speak highly of Donald Trump. During the same interview, he referred to Trump as a “legendary figure” during a party at Mar-a-Lago. He remarked, “No one in the world could have achieved what he has, so I have a lot of admiration for him,” emphasizing his respect for the former president.
