In a recent discussion, military analyst Beskrestnov highlighted the evolving threat posed by new Russian missiles that are capable of speeds between 500 and 750 km/h. These missiles can maneuver actively and operate at very low altitudes, posing a significant challenge to existing defense systems.
Beskrestnov indicated that Russian forces are already making strategic investments in this next iteration of weaponry. According to him, Ukrainian intelligence has gathered information suggesting that Russia has already contracted for these missiles, similar to the Shahed rockets previously deployed.
He emphasized the urgency for Ukraine to prepare for this impending danger, stating, “We need to start considering what will happen in five months; by then, our reactive interceptors may not be effective against these faster missiles. We must develop affordable Ukrainian missiles capable of countering such threats. We currently have roughly half a year to act.”
Beskrestnov specifically mentioned various missile systems including the “Bandarole,” “Dan-T,” “Dan-M,” and “Geran-5.” According to Defence Express, the S8000 “Bandarole” is identified as a Russian cruise missile, while the “Dan-T” is believed to be a licensed copy. Earlier sightings of these missiles have been reported on Russian strike reconnaissance drones, notably the “Orion,” as well as in project images featuring ground launch systems, though the operational use of these systems remains unconfirmed.
