Meta has responded to recent comments made by Rafał Brzoska regarding a request from the Minister of Digitization for penalties against the company. Brzoska suggested that Meta should face multi-billion-dollar financial repercussions for allowing false information to be disseminated on its platform.
Minister of Digitization Krzysztof Gawkowski has submitted a formal request to the European Commission for a €250 million fine (approximately 1 billion PLN) against Meta. The request is based on the publication of “harmful advertisements and misleading content for Polish citizens.” In response, Brzoska, who is currently in a dispute with the tech giant, stated, “This is insufficient to compel the platform to stop publishing false content,” indicating that the penalty should amount to many billions.
Meta’s Official Statement
In its official statement, Meta’s press office remarked that “the figure cited by Mr. Brzoska lacks factual basis and is not supported by any known data, methodology, or sources.” The company also referenced Brzoska’s ongoing concerns regarding the misuse of his image in fraudulent ads appearing on Facebook.
