On Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump described the situation in the Spanish city of Ceuta, located in North Africa, as “sad,” criticizing Spain for having “zero control” over its borders. This comment refers to the significant influx of migrants recorded at the end of July, as reported by EFE.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump alluded to the Ceuta situation without naming it directly. He stated, “So sad what’s happening in Spain, a country with ZERO control over its border. WOW!”
This is not the first time Trump has voiced criticism of Spain, having previously reproached the nation for its defense spending and its stance on conflicts in Iran and Gaza.
Earlier this week, he referred to Spain as a “destroyed country” and remarked that the massive influx of migrants into Ceuta in July was “very sad to see.” He mentioned in an interview with GB News, “Spain will be a destroyed country. I have an issue with Spain because it does not behave well regarding NATO and does not pay what it should.”
Regarding the situation in Ceuta, Trump expressed, “What is happening there is very sad to see… Thousands of people are flooding into their country. I’ve never seen anything like this,” he asserted.
At the end of July, over 70,000 migrants entered Ceuta illegally from Morocco. While most returned in the following days, just over 5,000 remain in the city awaiting the processing of their deportation or asylum requests.
