SBU Disrupts FSB Terror Plot Against Russian Opposition Leader
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has disclosed details about an operation that effectively prevented a terrorist attack orchestrated by the Russian FSB against a prominent leader of the Russian opposition political movement. As part of an ongoing pre-trial investigation into the terrorist act, SBU operatives conducted urgent investigative actions to gather and document evidence.
During a search at a specific location, a group of individuals launched an armed attack against the SBU’s operational and investigative team. They attempted to obstruct the investigative process and blocked the access of law enforcement vehicles with their own cars. To stop the assault and ensure the safety of the participants involved in the procedural actions, a special unit from the SBU’s Alpha Counter-Terrorism Center was deployed. In the course of neutralizing the armed resistance, law enforcement officials employed their firearms.
The encounter resulted in injuries among the attackers, who were subsequently apprehended. Initial investigative actions revealed that those detained were affiliated with a unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Authorities recovered weapons and documents from them.
Currently, efforts are underway to establish all circumstances surrounding the incident, the role of each participant, and the matter of the final legal qualification of their actions is being addressed. Under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General, a pre-trial investigation has been initiated concerning threats and attacks on law enforcement personnel. Investigative actions are ongoing.
