Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine halted its strikes on Russia upon a request from the United States during CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s visit to Moscow for negotiations. According to Axios, Washington had informed Kyiv in advance about the American delegation’s visit.
Zelensky stated, “When the Americans asked us to pause strikes on Moscow and St. Petersburg on August 25, 26, and 27, we complied. There were no strikes. However, Ukraine was still targeted.”
He emphasized that Ukraine is also prepared to comply with similar requests from other nations regarding Vladivostok, though he did not specify the details. It is known that the Eastern Economic Forum will take place in the Russian Far East from September 1 to 4.
Furthermore, Zelensky mentioned upcoming meetings in Moscow, stating, “We will take these into account. We always support any step towards peace, emphasizing that Russia should not prolong this war indefinitely. A resolution is necessary, and leaders rightfully address this to the illegitimate resident of Russia, Vladimir Putin. Thus, for the sake of diplomacy and negotiations, we will ensure the sky above Russia is cleared of drones during specified periods and directions when partners request it.”
He also issued a warning to airlines operating in major Russian airports, indicating that “the safe moments in Russian airspace have ended.” Zelensky stressed that safety in Russian airspace would return only with genuine progress towards peace.
