Businessman Hendrick Klein, who was named president of CFR Cluj overnight, recently shared his plans for the club amid its turbulent period, which includes a new coach and financial difficulties.
CFR Cluj is currently facing significant challenges, having entered insolvency and hiring a new coach, Marius Șumudică. Following the announcement of his presidency, Klein revealed that his primary goal is to help the club regain financial strength and develop on an international level.
“I am here to assist CFR Cluj, not to buy the club,” Klein stated in an interview, clarifying that his involvement aims at enhancing the club’s commercial prospects and performance on the field. He emphasized the importance of a meeting scheduled for August 31, where shareholders will officially accept his nomination.
Klein’s Commitment to CFR Cluj
Klein has a longstanding relationship with the club’s current financier, Ioan Varga, stemming from past business ventures in gold mining. He acknowledges the financial struggles faced by CFR Cluj but believes in its potential for recovery through new sponsorships and strategic investments.
“I love this city; it feels like home. I want people to see the positive changes at Cluj,” Klein expressed.
While he intends to focus on administrative duties, Klein assured that he respects the decisions of the coaching staff and will refrain from interfering in tactical matters. He appreciates the experience of coach Șumudică and believes in allowing him the necessary time to implement his strategies.
Klein further elaborated on his vision for CFR Cluj, stating, “I do not plan to buy the club or shares. My goal is to attract sponsors and partners to strengthen the club financially.” He argues that owning a football club is not inherently profitable and prefers to leverage his business acumen for the club’s benefit.
