Gheorghe Hagi Discusses Denis Drăguș’s Challenging Situation Ahead of National Matches

Gheorghe Hagi, the 61-year-old head coach of Romania’s national football team, held a press conference on Monday where he addressed the situation of Denis Drăguș, a 27-year-old striker. Hagi acknowledged that Drăguș’s lack of match play is problematic for the attacker.

Hagi is set to make his official debut as Romania’s head coach on September 25 against Sweden in the Nations League, followed by matches against Bosnia on September 28, Poland on October 2, and Sweden again on October 5.

Currently with Trabzonspor, Drăguș has struggled to secure a position on the team. FCSB expressed interest in acquiring him this summer, but the player opted to remain in Turkey, where he has yet to see any game time.

Hagi’s Insight on Drăguș’s Challenges

Hagi revealed that he has already spoken with Drăguș and hopes for a quick resolution to his predicament. He regards Drăguș as a vital and experienced player for the national team.

“We have players who are playing well and frequently, and we monitor them. There are others, like Denis, who are not playing, and his situation is complicated. We will see how it develops. I have talked to him, and we hope he can resolve his issues swiftly, ideally within this month,” Hagi stated during the press conference.

Drăguș had a loan spell last season, playing half a season with both Eyupspor and Gaziantep.

In his time with Trabzonspor, Drăguș has made 26 appearances, scoring 3 goals, all during the 2024-2025 season.

Gigi Becali’s Interest in Drăguș

Gigi Becali, the owner of FCSB, has shown persistent interest in signing Drăguș. Although negotiations have hit a deadlock, Becali remains optimistic about the possibility of the striker joining his team.

“We will definitely sign a new striker. Denis Drăguș is probably closer, but I haven’t discussed anything. We are waiting for him to resolve his situation,” said Gigi Becali.

Meanwhile, as talks with Drăguș stall, FCSB has reached an agreement with Arnold Garita, a former forward from FC Argeș.
