Gigi Becali Rejects €1.2 Million Offer for Joao Paulo from Zamalek

Gigi Becali, the 68-year-old owner of FCSB, has confirmed that he received a €1.2 million offer for midfielder Joao Paulo, 28. The player, hailing from Cape Verde, is reportedly sought after by Zamalek in Egypt.

Despite the interest, Becali is not willing to let him go for such a low price. “Yes, it’s true. I haven’t set a price, but I am not a fool. I won’t take players for €300,000 and sell them for €1.2 million. I either make millions or lose all the money. Do you understand? That’s the situation,” he stated.

FCSB acquired Joao Paulo from Oțelul Galați last winter for €300,000, and his release clause is set at €3 million. Last season, he made 16 appearances in the Superliga for FCSB, scoring two goals.

In the current Superliga season, he has made three appearances, netting one goal in a 2-2 draw against Farul Constanța. He also scored FCSB’s lone goal in a disappointing 1-4 loss to Auda, which led to the team’s elimination from the Conference League qualifiers after another defeat at home, 2-3.

Joao Paulo was part of the Cape Verde national team during the World Cup, playing 14 minutes in a goalless draw against Spain, and then was a full-time player in the match against Saudi Arabia, which also ended 0-0.
