According to reports from the United Nations, July saw a rise in civilian casualties in Ukraine, with over 50 individuals killed in Kyiv alone due to Russian strikes. This represents a significant increase of 30% compared to June 2026 when there were a total of 298 deaths and 2,041 injuries. The number of civilian deaths recorded in July is the highest since May 2022, and the toll among children, which reached 17 killed and 166 injured, is the highest since April 2022.
Almost half of the fatalities were attributed to long-range weaponry used far from the frontlines. The UN has confirmed civilian casualties from Russian attacks in 14 regions across Ukraine, including Kyiv. The highest number of deaths and injuries was documented in Kyiv (54 deaths, 202 injuries), Kherson (34 deaths, 424 injuries), Zaporizhzhia (27 deaths, 280 injuries), and Sumy (20 deaths, 152 injuries).
Victims from aerial bombardments accounted for 105 deaths and 753 injuries, reflecting a 143% increase from June, which recorded 45 deaths and 308 injuries. Additionally, explosive remnants of war emerged as the second leading cause of civilian casualties, according to the UN.
