Severe weather conditions have significantly altered the schedule for the final day of competition at the European Rowing Championships in Varese. Organizers announced the rescheduling of finals, with Romanian crews set to compete in five events starting at 13:05 with the B finals, followed by the medal finals at 14:00.
The final day was heavily impacted by unfavorable weather, leading organizers to initially suspend all races at 10:25. An hour and a half later, the European Rowing Federation issued a brief statement announcing the revised schedule. The B finals for the men’s and women’s single sculls, paracanoeing, and lightweight categories are now set to begin at 13:05.
The A finals will follow at 14:00 in ten-minute intervals. There will be a fifteen-minute gap between the paracanoeing single sculls and the men’s 8+ race. The order of races for medal allocation has also been changed.
The European Rowing Federation confirmed that it will continue to monitor weather conditions and may implement further schedule adjustments if necessary.
Romanian rowers secured four medals on the first day of finals, including two golds in the women’s and men’s double sculls, one silver in the men’s four, and one bronze in the women’s four.
Only two races were completed earlier in the day, with the mixed double sculls semifinals concluding. In the first semifinal, the Romanian crew of Marian Enache and Iulia Bălăucă triumphed over Italy, leading from start to finish and finishing more than nine seconds ahead of the second-place team.
The second semifinal was more competitive, with Germany and Ukraine securing the top two spots for direct qualification to the finals. The last two qualifying spots were claimed by the Netherlands and Finland from the respective semifinals.
