President Donald Trump stated on Friday that he does not believe China or Russia are currently “participating” in the ongoing conflict with Iran. However, he warned that if they were to get involved, it would be “very bad for them,” according to Reuters.
Trump mentioned on his Truth Social platform, “President Xi told me during our recent meeting in Beijing that he will not provide or sell, under any circumstances, weapons to the Islamic Republic of Iran. This promise also applies to Chinese companies.”
He also noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed to him that Russia would not sell arms to Iran, expressing confidence that neither Moscow nor Beijing is engaged in the conflict.
“If they were to get involved, it would be very bad for them. It certainly would not be in their interest,” the American leader wrote.
The United States has been in conflict with Iran since February, following attacks by the U.S. and Israel that resulted in the deaths of high-ranking Iranian officials, including the country’s supreme leader.
Four sources familiar with U.S. intelligence told Reuters that Iranian attacks on CIA targets in the Gulf region early in the conflict prompted American authorities to investigate whether Russia had provided Iran with intelligence on targets or drone technology.
The Kremlin declined to comment on these reports on Thursday. Additionally, the U.S. has previously sanctioned individuals and companies from Russia and China accused of assisting Iran in acquiring weaponry.
