Universitatea Craiova has lost the first leg of the second preliminary round of the Champions League against Bulgaria’s Levski Sofia, finishing with a score of 0-1. The outcome of the qualification will be determined next week in Bănie.
The return match is scheduled for July 29 at 20:30 at the “Ion Oblemenco” stadium.
Football Meets Data has analyzed the current chances for each team to qualify for the third round: Universitatea Craiova stands at 35%, while Levski Sofia has a 65% chance.
Chances of Advancement for Craiova
Despite losing by a single goal, the Oltenia side remains hopeful for a comeback in the second leg of the Champions League preliminary round. While experts view the Romanian champions as the underdogs, qualifying is not out of reach.
Following the conclusion of the match in Bulgaria, Football Meets Data updated its calculations regarding the qualification chances for teams participating in the second preliminary round of the Champions League. Although Craiova lost the first leg, the team coached by Felipe Coelho continues to retain significant opportunities for advancement.
Current estimates indicate that Universitatea Craiova has a 35% chance of moving to the third preliminary round, compared to Levski Sofia’s favorable 65% probability.
After the match in Sofia, the chances for the Oltenia team have considerably decreased; prior to the first leg, they had a 53.4% chance of qualifying, while the Bulgarians were at 46.6%.
If Craiova manages to eliminate Levski Sofia, they will face the winner of the tie between Kairat Almaty and Omonia Nicosia in the third preliminary round. Omonia secured a 1-0 victory in the first leg of their match against the Kazakh side.
Should Craiova be eliminated, they will face the loser of the match between KuPS from Finland and Azerbaijan’s Sabah Baku, where the latter won 1-0 at home in the first leg.
