Influencer Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan, are set to challenge their extradition to the United Kingdom, where they face serious allegations including rape. Their attorney announced this development on Monday, stating that the brothers believe their arrest in the United States is politically motivated.
The Tate brothers were arrested by U.S. authorities on Saturday in Miami, coinciding with British prosecutors announcing new accusations against them for rape, human trafficking for sexual exploitation, and assault.
Currently, Andrew is facing a total of 42 charges, while Tristan has 17 charges against him.
“We oppose the extradition because Andrew and Tristan are innocent. They have never done anything wrong and should not be extradited for crimes they did not commit,” stated their lawyer, Joseph McBride, following a court hearing in Miami.
McBride also indicated that their arrest occurred shortly after the brothers met with members of Congress in Washington, D.C. He noted, “They were walking around the Capitol, and three days later they wake up in prisoner jumpsuits. Connect the dots,” he remarked to reporters.
Ongoing Investigation in Florida
Andrew Tate is a prominent figure in what is referred to as the “manosphere,” which encompasses communities that often propagate caricatured views of masculinity, deep misogyny, and personal development techniques.
He shares his controversial views with millions of followers on social media, including 10.8 million followers on X.
Following their arrest on Saturday in Miami by federal authorities, new charges of rape and human trafficking were announced against the Tates by British prosecutors.
In March 2025, Florida initiated a criminal investigation targeting the brothers. The current status of this investigation remains unclear.
Legal Troubles in Romania
In Romania, the Tate brothers are also under criminal investigation.
They face charges including human trafficking, sexual relations with a minor, and money laundering. Additionally, they are accused of human trafficking and forming an organized crime group for the sexual exploitation of women.
In November 2024, the court sent the case regarding human trafficking, rape, and organized crime back to prosecutors for further action.
The brothers were initially detained in December 2022 and have since faced various legal restrictions, including pre-trial detention and house arrest. By April 2026, a court in Bucharest lifted all judicial control measures against them.
In early July 2026, prosecutors from DIICOT announced an extension of their investigations into the Tate brothers. In addition to previous charges of human trafficking and rape from late 2024, further offenses have been added to the list.
