Ukrainian airstrikes have hit a massive Wildberries warehouse located near Moscow, resulting in fatalities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky indicated that the facility was part of the supply chain for components used in drone and navigational equipment production.
In the early hours of Saturday, large plumes of smoke were seen rising over the Wildberries logistics center in Elektrostal, situated just 60 km from the Kremlin. Zelensky stated that the facility was targeted because the “aggressor was using it to supply authorized components for drone and navigational equipment production.”
The Ukrainian President acknowledged, “In response to Russian attacks on our civilian infrastructure, our cities, and communities, two large logistical facilities were attacked — one in the Moscow region and the other in Tambov.”
Pro-Ukrainian commentators welcomed the airstrikes, describing it as “probably the best night in a long time. Counteroffensive actions against Russian-controlled logistics nodes have finally begun.”
Tambov Governor Yevgeny Pervyshev condemned the attack, labeling it a “planned terrorist attack on civilians.”
This recent wave of airstrikes is expected to cause significant disruptions across Russia, impacting the country’s critical supply chains. These operations are also viewed as retaliation for prior Russian strikes on Ukrainian postal hubs.
Wildberries is among the largest e-commerce platforms in Russia and the CIS, functioning as an online marketplace where thousands of sellers offer clothing, footwear, electronics, cosmetics, household items, and more.
The company boasts an extensive network of warehouses and order pickup points, enabling efficient delivery across a large area. Due to its scale and developed logistics, Wildberries plays a role in the Russian e-commerce sector comparable to Amazon’s in many Western markets, though it emphasizes a marketplace model and local pickup points more than its own retail sales.
