Kremlin Declares Full-Scale War as West Supplies Ukraine with Arms
The Russian government has officially described the conflict in Ukraine as a full-scale war, moving beyond previous terminology that suggested a limited operation. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized that the situation has escalated significantly, with the West supplying millions of tons of weaponry to Ukraine.
Oleg Kovalenko, head of the Center for Public Diplomacy, noted Peskov’s remarks highlight that what began as a limited engagement has transformed into a full-blown war. He asserted that this shift in language is not merely rhetorical but serves as a deliberate effort to prepare the Russian populace for potential mobilization, which is expected to be considered in the fall.
Kovalenko also pointed out the anticipated restrictions that may accompany this mobilization, including a potential ban on leaving Russia. He advised that it would be wise for Russians to consider leaving the country soon, as the life expectancy of a Russian soldier on the front lines is alarmingly short, ranging from 15 to 30 minutes.
