Gabi Mureșan, Former CFR Cluj Champion and Apold Mayor, Dies at 44

Gabi Mureșan, a former midfielder and three-time champion with CFR Cluj, has died at the age of 44. He had been serving as the mayor of Apold since 2020.

Gabi Mureșan, CFR Cluj Champion, Passes Away
According to reports, Mureșan may have drowned in a lake near Şaeș, heading towards Apold. Last night, firefighters were called to search for him, and they later managed to retrieve him from the water.
Medical personnel immediately began resuscitation efforts, and Mureșan was transported to Târgu Mureș Emergency Hospital, but unfortunately, he could not be saved.
Former teammate Adrian Anca expressed his shock, stating, “Yes, he was swimming… I am in shock. My colleagues are leaving us… Radu Mărginean, Martin Tudor, now Gabi…”
Former International, 3-Time Champion
Mureșan, who played 9 matches for the Romanian national team as a defensive midfielder, began his career at Gaz Metan Mediaș before moving on to Gloria Bistrița. In 2007, he joined CFR Cluj, where he would become synonymous with the club.
He spent six years with CFR, until 2013, and had a stint abroad with Tom Tomsk in Russia before finishing his career back in his home region at ASA Târgu Mureș.
During his time with CFR, he won 8 trophies, including the Romanian championship titles in 2008, 2010, and 2012.
