Ukraine Signs Three New Drone Agreements with Allies

Ukraine has formalized three new Drone Deals with Estonia, the Netherlands, and Denmark, aimed at strengthening military collaboration and developing defense technologies. The agreement with Estonia involves establishing joint military production in both nations, especially focusing on air defense systems. President Volodymyr Zelensky described this agreement as a signal of trust between the countries.
The deal with the Netherlands encompasses cooperation in drone technology, shared production, expert exchanges, and arms export possibilities. Discussions also included enhancing Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and developing European defenses against ballistic threats.
Furthermore, the agreement with Denmark marks the ninth such partnership for Ukraine, according to Zelensky. This initiative is expected to facilitate joint defense manufacturing, experience sharing, and access to Ukrainian defense technologies that have proven effective in wartime scenarios.
The collaboration with Denmark builds upon previous efforts to work together under a “Danish model” of joint production, allowing Denmark to participate in Ukrainian defense exports.
Background
- Ukraine initiated the Drone Deal format in March 2026, establishing a specialized security agreement focused on extensive collaboration in the production and supply of drones, missiles, and other defense technologies. This initiative was publicly discussed during Zelensky’s international engagements, particularly concerning cooperation with the United States and Middle Eastern nations to counter drone threats.
- In April, Zelensky officially proposed this format to Germany, Norway, Italy, and the Netherlands. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed interest in developing joint production, particularly in the drone sector. Ukraine secured agreement with the Netherlands to initiate this format, as confirmed by the President’s Office, while bilateral documents were signed with Germany and Norway to commence Drone Deal activities.
