Ukraine’s Air Defense Downs 524 Targets Amid Major Russian Attack

In a significant nighttime offensive, Russian forces launched a barrage of missiles and drones over Ukraine. The Ukrainian air defense successfully intercepted a total of 524 targets, comprising 48 missiles and 476 drones of various types.
- Four 3M22 Zircon anti-ship missiles;
- 24 Iskander-M ballistic missiles;
- 34 X-101 cruise missiles;
- Eight Kalibr cruise missiles;
- Four guided aviation missiles X-59/69;
- 496 attack UAVs.
Preliminary reports by 9:00 AM indicated the interception included:
- Four Iskander-M ballistic missiles;
- 32 X-101 cruise missiles;
- Eight Kalibr cruise missiles;
- Four X-59/69 guided aviation missiles;
- 476 UAVs of various types.
Incidents of missile hits were reported at 33 locations, with 25 ballistic missiles and 12 attack drones confirmed to have struck. Additionally, debris from drones fell at 18 sites. The Air Force noted that details regarding several missiles are still being clarified.
Context
- According to Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, the capital Kyiv suffered the most severe damage, with direct impacts on at least 20 residential buildings.
- Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko termed the attack as the “most massive” yet, estimating 13 fatalities as of 9:50 AM. July 3 has been declared a day of mourning in Kyiv.
