Digi arrives in the mail from Belgium. The tender won by the Romanian company

The telecom company enters the distribution market in Belgium following a successful tender. The agreement with the national postal service has a duration of five years.

DIGI will sell telephone and internet subscriptions in all 655 post offices of Bpost in Belgium, the two companies announced, according to Economica.net.

Until now, the operator sold its services mainly through its own website, through sales agents and in about 100 partner stores, as it does not yet have a network of its own stores.

The services are already available in the country's 83 largest post offices, and the expansion will gradually take place in all Bpost branches during the summer.

Customers can buy mobile and fixed internet subscriptions directly at the counters. In the first phase of this partnership, the focus is on mobile services, as the fiber optic network is still in development and currently only exists in the Brussels region.

DIGI Belgium General Manager Jeroen Degadt explained that Bpost post offices reach every citizen, adding: “This is exactly the goal of DIGI: to make accessible telecommunications services available to everyone, anywhere in the country.”

Digi competes as a new player with the big three operators in Belgium: Proximus, Orange Belgium and Telenet. The company is banking on the deal to rapidly grow its customer base, which had 91,000 mobile users at the end of last year.

The selection took place following an open commercial tender organized by Bpost, where Digi's offer was chosen after an evaluation process in which several telecom providers participated. For the postal service, the project is part of a strategy to transform offices into integrated service centers.

In addition to the classic postal activity, the branches already offer banking services and money transfers in partnership with BNP Paribas Fortis, Nickel and Ria Money Transfer, the quoted source writes.

Tina Hernalsteen, Retail & Banking Director at Bpost, explained that post offices remained in many localities the last spaces for physical services, adding: “we are now taking a new step with DIGI by introducing essential public utility services such as telecommunications”.

In addition to Romania and Belgium, DIGI also operates in Spain, Italy and Portugal, planning to expand to the UK after exiting Hungary in 2021.

Last year, DIGI recorded revenues of 2.22 billion euros, up 15% from 2024.
