This morning, Real Madrid announced the final results of the presidential elections. According to News.ro, Florentino Perez obtained 21,741 votes (65%), while his rival, Enrique Riquelme, collected 11,814 votes (35%). The official announcement sounded like this: “The Electoral Commission announces that, with 100% of the votes cast in person and by mail, Mr. Florentino Pérez won the elections for the presidency and the board of directors of the Real Madrid club.”
Born on March 8, 1947, Florentino Perez is a Spanish businessman. Engineer by profession, former politician, he held the position of president of the Real Madrid football team in two mandates: from 2000 to 2006, respectively from 2009 until today. During his time he was the talk of the “Galacticos”, during this period numerous world-class footballers and Ballon d'Or winners were brought in for exorbitant sums. Zinédine Zidane, David Beckham, Ronaldo, Kaká, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luís Figo, Michael Owen and Sergio Ramos can be mentioned.

He has a fortune of 6.8 billion euros
With an estimated fortune of 6.8 billion euros, Florentino Pérez has faced problems for the first time since 2009, with Real Madrid having the last two competitive years without success domestically and abroad. And yet, he was re-elected on Sunday night for an 8th term, which will end in 2030.
At midnight last night, Perez declared victory “on all fronts”, pointing out that he had achieved “the second best result in history”.

The president of the COX energy group, Enrique Riquelme, had conceded defeat just a few seconds earlier. And this because several polls had appeared that placed Pérez in the clear lead. It is worth saying that these early elections were provoked by Pérez himself in a press conference at the end of a second consecutive year without a major title. And he had done so despite being re-elected unopposed for a fourth time in January 2025.
José Mourinho will be brought in as coach
On the other hand, Perez confirmed in his speech that the first major decision of his new term will be to bring back Portuguese José Mourinho at the helm of the football team, which will happen after 13 years since his first term. At the age of 63, Jose Mourinho is considered in Spain as the coach who put an end to the dominance of rival FC Barcelona, a team coached at the time by Pep Guardiola and whose star was Lionel Messi. In three competitive years, Real Madrid won a La Liga title, the Copa del Rey and a Spanish Super Cup.
In the 2025/2026 edition, the Portuguese coach coached Benfica Lisbon. Among the teams he trained are Fenerbahce Istanbul, AS Roma, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, FC Porto, Inter Milan and Chelsea. Mourinho won the title of champion in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain, as well as six European trophies, including two Champions Leagues (with Porto in 2004 and with Inter Milan in 2010).
