A Latvian court sentenced a pro-Russian activist to 3 years in prison for displaying the Russian flag in her apartment window.
In the spring of 2023, Riga resident Elena Kreile hung homemade Russian flags in the window of her house. One of them had the inscription “God protects Latvia,” and the other: “Putin is my friend.”
Because of her position, the woman was put on trial. According to the investigation, Elena Kreile previously expressed support for Russia “using items of clothing or accessories” during public events. The woman also displayed boxes of white, red and blue colors on the windowsill of her apartment, and among her things they found a pocket calendar for 2002, which depicted her and her husband in a 1943 Soviet army uniform.
On July 10, the court found Kreile guilty and sentenced her to 3 years in prison.
