Sorana Cîrstea (36 years old, 18 WTA) will meet Mirra Andreeva (19 years, 8 WTA) in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros. After the victory in the “eights”, the Romanian revealed that recently she trained with the young Russian and knows her very well.
It's the year of Sorana Cîrstea, who manages to surprise tennis lovers with her performances every week. On Sunday, May 31, she qualified, after a 17-year break, in the quarter-finals of Roland Garros, thanks to a success with Xiyu Wang (25 years old, 148 WTA).

During this evening, the 36-year-old player learned that she will duel with Mirra Andreeva for a place in the semifinals of the Grand Slam tournament in Paris. The Russian beat Jil Teichmann in two sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Cîrstea revealed today that she knows Andreeva quite well, because they trained together recently.
“Mirra serves a lot better, she has a pretty complete game and forehand and backhand, she hits pretty well, she moves well. I've been training with her quite a bit lately and we're getting to know each other. It will be a very tough match, a very physical match, and the difference will be made in a few details”, said Sorana about her future opponent, in an interview for eurosport.ro.
The two players met only once in the WTA circuit, in April, in the quarterfinals of the tournament in Linz. Then, Andreeva won 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-2, after which she won the trophy from the Austrian city, beating Gabriela Ruse in the semifinals and Anastasia Potapova in the final.
The match between Sorana Cîrstea and Mirra Andreeva will take place on Tuesday, June 2on one of the main courts at Roland Garros, most likely on the famous Philippe-Chatrier arena.
In the Roland Garros semifinal, the winner of this match will meet either Elina Svitolina (31 years old, 7 WTA) or Marta Kostyuk (23 years old, 15 WTA). The two Ukrainians are teammates on their country's Davis Cup team and have had some excellent performances in the clay season. Svitolina won in Rome, and Kostyuk prevailed in Madrid.
