Nadia Comăneci was greeted with applause and cheers on Sunday morning, upon arrival at the Multipurpose Hall in Onești that bears her name. The event is part of the series of events organized in the hometown of the former athlete to celebrate her career, one of the greatest personalities in the history of Romanian sports.

Nadia Comăneci arrived at the Multipurpose Hall “Nadia Comăneci” dressed in a white and blue tracksuit with the insignia of Romania, accompanied by her husband, Bart Conner. Those present greeted her with enthusiasm, turning the moment into a real celebration.

The event was attended by numerous champions, officials and guests from the world of sports, as well as the First Lady of Romania, Mirabela Grădinaru. She was accompanied by the two children of the presidential family.
Decorated by Nicușor Dan at the Cotroceni Palace
The demonstrations in Onești take place a day after the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, decorated Nadia Comăneci at the Cotroceni Palace, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of her historic performances at the Montreal 1976 Olympic Games.
During the ceremony, the head of state conferred the National Order on the champion “Star of Romania” in the rank of Grand Cross, one of the highest distinctions of the Romanian state.
According to the Presidential Administration, the award was granted “as a sign of high gratitude, appreciation and pride for the dedication and exceptional professionalism with which he contributed to the consolidation of the Olympic prestige of our country”.

The Presidential Administration conveyed that through her extraordinary performances, Nadia Comăneci redefined the limits of sporting excellence and inscribed her name in Romania's sporting heritage and identity.
Considered one of the greatest gymnasts of all time, Nadia Comăneci entered the history of world sports after obtaining the first perfect 10 in the history of Olympic gymnastics in Montreal, in 1976, a performance that transformed her into a symbol of sports excellence at the international level.
