When Sorana Cîrstea plays in the round of 16 at Roland Garros

Our only representative left in the competition on the Parisian clay played a sensational match on Friday, in the third round, score 6-0, 6-0 against Solana Sierra (21 years old, 68 WTA), and on Sunday she will fight for a place in the quarter-finals of the competition with the Chinese Xiu Wang (25 years old, #148 WTA), who also on Friday passed Yuliia Starodubtseva (26 years old, #55 WTA), score 6-3, 7-5, producing the surprise.

The match between Sorana Cîrstea and Xiyu Wang was scheduled by the organizers for Sunday, on the Suzanne-Lenglen arena, the second largest in the Roland Garros complex. The duel between the two will open the day with number 8, from 11:00 local time, 12:00 Romanian time.

After last week's exhilarating results, Sorana can match her best performance at the tournament in the French capital, a quarter-final, as she did at the start of her career as a youngster in 2009.

If she gets past Wang, in the first match of Sunday at the Suzanne-Lenglen arena, Sorana will beat the winner of the duel Mirra Andreeva (8 WTA) – Jil Teichmann (170 WTA) in the quarterfinals. There are other important names on the lower half of the table, led by Iga Swiatek, Elina Svitolina or Marta Kostyuk.

  • Elina Svitolina – Belinda Bencic, not before 13:30;

  • Jesper De Jong – Alexander Zverev, not before 16:30;
