Nicușor Dan talked with Zelenski after the incident in Galati. Romania and Ukraine accelerate cooperation for the production of drones

Romania and Ukraine will speed up cooperation in the field of joint production of drones, President Nicușor Dan announced on Friday after a discussion with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenski, held following the incident in Galaţi, where a Russian drone crashed into an apartment block.

“I spoke with President Volodymyr Zelenski after last night's incident in Galati, caused by a Russian drone. It is the most serious incident on Romanian territory since the beginning of Russia's large-scale aggression against Ukraine,” Nicușor Dan wrote in a post published on social networks.

The president announced that he and the Ukrainian leader agreed to accelerate cooperation between the two countries in the field of joint production of drones.

“We agreed, together with President Zelenski, to accelerate the cooperation between Romania and Ukraine regarding the joint production of drones that can be deployed quickly. The experience on the battlefield and the technology of Ukraine's drones are strategic assets for the defense of the entire Eastern Flank”, stated Nicușor Dan.

According to the head of state, Romania will continue to invest in strengthening NATO's Eastern Flank and in supporting Ukraine “in the exercise of its legitimate right to self-defense”.

“As our allies and partners in Europe and around the world said today, Russia's aggression does not stop at its borders. By continuing to attack Ukraine and threaten neighboring NATO members, Russia demonstrates a complete disregard for international law and the lives of innocent citizens

These actions must stop. Russia must end the attacks and engage in real dialogue for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine,” he added.

Zelenski announced that Ukraine is ready to help Romania

“We are ready to support Romania in any way necessary under these circumstances,” Zelenski said on Friday morning.

Two weeks ago, at the B9 summit in Bucharest, Zelenski was answering a question asked by HotNews on the subject of Russian drones in Romania's airspace.

“We will help. From our side… For example, today we signed with the president of Lithuania, Gitana Nauseda, an agreement on drones. We also did this in the Middle East and started with some European countries (drone production, no) that are ready,” he said.

“I think we will do it, categorically, and together with Romania, we are working on it. It primarily includes our expertise, to send our people to one country or another,” said Zelenski.

“Expertise… It's about how to do defense, that is, defense know-how. This is what we have and we are ready to help. I think the document will be ready in a short time. The document will be prepared and implemented. We will do everything we can, the experts will check it,” the Ukrainian head of state said.
