“The country needs the Government, for sure“, Eugen Tomac answered shortly, appropriately Digi24.

The question was persistently asked by journalists before the start of a public event. Tomac avoided going into details, stating only that “at the right time I will make statements”.

We remind you that President Nicușor Dan decided to postpone the announcement of a candidate for the position of prime minister, given that a parliamentary majority to support a new Executive has not yet been formed. According to some political sources quoted by “Adevărul”, the European Parliament member Eugen Tomac remains the favorite, but the support from the Legislature is insufficient at this moment.

Tomac would currently benefit from the votes of PSD, UDMR and the group of national minorities. Instead, PNL, USR and AUR reject both the Tomac option and the idea of a technocrat prime minister, the same sources claim. The approximately 50 unaffiliated sovereign parliamentarians do not have a unified position either: one side would vote for a new government, others are categorically opposed.

Cotroceni sources say the president wants to make sure there is a stable majority before officially nominating Tomac, considered one of his closest collaborators. No Dan would want to expose him to a political failure in an uncertain vote in Parliament.

The process of appointing the prime minister is, for the moment, completely blocked.

PSD would be willing to support a government led by Eugen Tomac, political sources claim. In addition, some of the unaffiliated MPs, many from SOS and POT, could lean towards a favorable vote. Under these conditions, a possible Tomac Government could pass even without the support of AUR, PNL or USR.
